Matt wrote about how Blair's hair (see photo -- I don't know how you could miss it) and Blair
wrote a book -- more than one actually. If the title,
Creative Correction: Extraordinary Ideas for Everyday Discipline (Focus on the Family Book), didn't give it away, let me clue you in on the ramifications of this sort of benign-seeming rhetoric. Please know that it disgusts me when
people* try to
tell you that there's a
right way to parent a child. It's one thing to be revolted by the thought of ... say ... a sanctimonious, has-been, Texan preacher's wife unit of Celebrity Boxing fodder's opinion on how one should go about spraying water into a crying toddler's face to curb that totally unreasonable behavior. I mean, seriously kid, what are you? 20 MONTHS? Grow up or Jesus will cast you into a lake of fire.
It's something entirely different when this same sort of ahem, creative, parenting (creative, indeed) directly endangers the life of every infant subjected to it -- like this and this and this whole site suggest. So because I can't change minds that don't want to be changed, I'm going to continue my practice of hiding all copies of Babywise whenever I go into Borders to buy something worthwile.
*Dr. Sears' stuff is generally quite good in scope and feel, but not always realistic, especially for working mothers.
